About the IIC Institute
In 1964, MSM College, Kayamkulam, was founded. Despite the obstacles that typically stand in the way of a college in a rural setting, the institution achieved considerable success. There are now eight post-graduate and fifteen undergraduate programs offered by the college. This college’s pupils can rightfully take pride in the admirable position they have created out for themselves in society.
In partnership with AICTE for Higher Education Institutions, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, launched the IIC initiative.
Fostering an innovative culture and startup ecosystem in HEIs is the goal of IIC.
As of November 2023, MSM College is an IIC Institute.
Vision / Mission of IIC established at the Institute
In order to foster innovation and entrepreneurship on campus and assist new start-ups, IIC was founded at MSM College in Kayamkulam. The goal is to encourage and develop students’ creativity and entrepreneurship abilities so they can grow into prosperous businesspeople who can positively influence society.
Journey of IIC established at the Institute
At MSM College, Kayamkulam, the Innovation Council was founded in 29/11/ 2023, during the second quarter of IIC6.0. Dr. A. Muhammed Thaha, the Principal and President, Dr. Divya V, Vice principal and the Vice-president, and Dr. Lakshmy M, the convener, led it. Despite only having begun operations by the second quarter of IIC6.0, the Council’s work has contributed to the development of an innovative culture inside the college by emphasizing ideation and its realization. IIC6.0 had ten activities focused on entrepreneurship and innovation.
In accordance with the calendar established by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and a self-driven calendar created by the institute, IIC has carried out a number of skill and entrepreneurial development programs. Among the programs offered are skill development courses to prepare students to launch their own businesses, awareness courses on innovation and startups to improve the knowledge of students and faculty. As the college’s Innovation Ambassadors, the convener Dr. Lakshmy .M received training.

IIC formal Inauguration
The formal inauguration of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) on January 23, 2024, by Sri. Anoop Ambika, CEO of Kerala Startup Mission, marked a significant milestone in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship within the institution. This event underscored the institution’s commitment to fostering creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration among students, faculty, and staff. The IIC aims to provide a platform for ideation, mentorship, and support for innovative projects, contributing to the local innovation ecosystem.
As a gesture of appreciation, Principal Dr. Muhammed Thaha presented a memento to Sri. Anoop Ambika.
To commemorate Entrepreneurship Day, an inter-departmental poster-making competition was held, highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship as a driver of economic and social progress. Ashiyana Suresh from the MCom third semester secured the first prize (Rs. 1000), the Department of Biotechnology team won second place (Rs. 750), and the third prize (Rs. 500) was shared by participants from the Departments of Botany and Zoology.

“Narrate the Story behind women in science contest”
The Department of Biotechnology, in partnership with IIC, held an interdepartmental storytelling competition for students called “Narrate the Story behind women in science contest” in honour of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Starting at 10:30 AM on February 20, 2024, the event was held. Students from different departments took part, telling inspiring stories about notable women in science. Members of the Physics, English, and Malayalam departments’ professors made up the judging panel. The winners were chosen by consensus after much consideration, and the top three competitors were given financial awards. On March 21, 2024, during the Botany and Biotechnology Association programme, the prizes were given out.
